How should a pool be lit at night?
In layers. In-pool LED fixtures light the water body; low-level path and step lighting handles safe circulation; uplighting on trees and walls builds depth beyond the deck; and warm, shielded fixtures light seating areas. Keeping fixtures out of direct sightlines and dimming the overall level prevents the glare that makes backyards feel like parking lots.

Safety and code
Pool lighting is electrical work in a wet environment. Correct fixture ratings, bonding and inspection are non-negotiable, and retrofitting older pool lights is a common part of a renovation for exactly this reason.
